BUCKLEY AT HOME
Peter has been married to Cherie for over 25 years (yes, he was a child groom) and they have two adult sons.
He grew up on Bribie Island on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia, the son of artistic, creative, free-thinking parents.
For an energetic kid with a zest for outdoors and activity, Bribie Island was perfect for a fun-loving lifestyle.
In his final year of high school Peter took up work as a DJ at parties and wedding receptions. This carried into a career in radio, starting in the country and moving around Australia before settling in the capital city market of Brisbane in Queensland. He spent 24 years in radio, the last 18 as a newsman.
Today he lives on acreage in the countryside, in the foothills of the D’Aguilar Range about an hour north of Brisbane, in the Hoop Pine and Oregon cottage he built with his own hands in the mid-80’s.
He is as adept with a hammer, chainsaw and tractor as he is with a microphone, lectern and speaking platform. A dozen cattle, mostly Brahmans, along with ancillary snakes, possums and scrub turkeys make up the Buckley retreat.
As a former distance runner and soccer player, Peter enjoys sport and plays golf and tennis, and has become a recent devotee of cycling as part of a fitness regime. His involvement with soccer continues as a trainer for local junior and senior teams.
He enjoys a quiet red wine with family and friends, but can also be “loud and out there” with the best of them.
With a ready, quick and irreverent sense of humour, which comes regularly to the fore in his Keynote Presentations, Peter is always prepared for a laugh.
As well as family and business, Peter has a philanthropic commitment to doing a percentage of pro-bono work every year for community benefit, reflecting his maxim: POSITIVELY SPEAKING
